Citizen Police Academy

Citizen Police Academy Group Photo Atop Police Armored VehicleThe Kent Police Department is pleased to offer the Kent community the opportunity to participate in the Citizen Police Academy (CPA). The Citizen Police Academy offers a chance for members of the Kent area to see first hand what police officers do and experience. In addition, it offers attendees an opportunity to make a unique connection with the Kent Police Department and its members.

Classes

The Citizen Police Academy involves eleven weekly classes and a graduation night. Each four-hour class is held at the Kent Police Department. Attendees learn about:

  • Case law
  • Court processes
  • Crime prevention
  • Criminal investigations
  • Criminal law
  • Drunk and drugged driving enforcement
  • Parking and traffic enforcement
  • Specialized police functions
  • Use of force

Attendees will also be afforded the opportunity to experience officer "ride-alongs" and police equipment. This is a rare chance for area residents to see the difference between television and the reality of police work.

The next CPA Class dates will be February 20th through May 7th . Classes will take place Thursday evenings from 6 pm to 10 pm.
